My Baby Left Me

 The Yetti-Men
My Baby Left Me
KAL
1964

The gist of the tune was a simply one: a guy wakes up one morning and finds his girl has left him. Finally tracking her down in the park.

Found my baby sittin' there neckin in the dark / Snuck up behind her and this is what I said / Baby if you don't come back, you'll soon be dead!"

The story continues on with the girl not heeding his warning.

"Now I'm going to tell you my lover's lament / she didn't come back, so I killed her dead / I'm sittin' at the bar just havin' a beer / I hear them sirens, the police are here.

Pretty morbid for a 16-year-old suburban high school student in 1964. "My Baby left me" became a huge song for the group on their fraternity circuit because kids misconstrued Lee Hanson's lyrics to say "My Baby Is A Lesbie".

Minnetonka, Minnesota-based teenage quintet : Jim Robinson (drums), Joel Peterson (bass), Brian Mahin (sax, keyboeards), Henry "Skip" Wesbter (rhtyhm guitar) and Lee Hanson (lead guitar and vocals).

At the height of the band's career, they collaborated with a folk group called The Uppa Trio and released an album (each taking half a side)

While sitting around one night watching a movie about the Abominable Snowman on TV, the term Yeti was used. Skip thought it was unusual enought to warrant a looking into and suggested "Yetti-Men" to the other four.
