Thanks, a local label and a great song! I couldn't find much on the label but Belfair is a town a bit North and West of Tacoma. Maybe that's where one of the label owners lived. I did find mention of a Big Bill Griffith who owned a studio in Tacoma, probably the same Bill Griffith you mention Mr. Hobo. Wonder if he owned this label and if Skate Board was recorded there?
Very good Bob!! I didn't notice that. I contacted someone who knows much more about this than myself and he felt that the label was probably owned by Bill Griffith - not only did he own the studio, but he also lived in Belfair.
Another collector clcd mystery solved. I have seen Befair (WA) 45 - 501 Bill Griffith "Baby" (1959) Listed as Rockabilly but not heard it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this song, can you please post the flip called "Patty Q" ?

ReplyDeleteThanks mcatahoula.
ReplyDeleteNow that you mention a studio owned by Bill Griffith, I see the release number is WG-1003, letters "WG" very likely standing for William Griffith.
Maybe you two should be Police detectives? Some real slothing goin' on here. Thanks for puting 2 + 2 together.

Belfair 501 - Bill Griffith - "Baby" b/w "Think About Me". Starday Music - 1959. B-Side not bad. Is this the first release for the label?
