Nineteen Years

Nineteen Years

Acetate supposed cut by one Johnny Gentry in the new Sam Philips studio at Madison Avenue in 1960. Found on "Desperate Rock'N'Roll Volume 20" issued in UK on the Flame label.

There was a Johnny Gentry release on Style Records, a Memphis label operated by Style Wooten. And in 1974 on another label from the same owner there was a song titled Nineteen Years, composed and sung by one A.C. Martin (Camaro 3536)

A real find or a real fake? ? I am a little skeptical about the authenticity of this acetate. Opinion anyone ?

  1. I think I have that Style record you are referring to. I'll get it out and give it a listen to compare to the audio file you provided. Why should it be a fake?

  2. I first heard this 20 years ago or so. Ive never heard of Gentry before. I did find it odd it was said to be a Nashville sun session since it doesn't sound at all like a Nashville song. It sounds more crude and not from 1960 as it claims. More around mid 60s. Which would be right around when Gentrys only record came out. There's almost no information about gentry either. So it's all a guess.

  3. No one said it was a Nashville session. Bob and Cees Klop are referring to Sam Phillips' studio on Madison Avenue in Memphis.
