From Mississippi. Calvin Prine had also records on Rebel States, Hope, Singing River and probably more.

Calvin Earl "Singing River" Prine, 75, of, Richland, left his earthly body on August 30, 2011. Service will be at 3 p.m., Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Moore Funeral Chapel in Petal followed by burial in George Street Cemetery.

Mr. Prine served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Oak Hill Apostolic Church and Jesus Name Tabernacle. He was a local country singer with the band, Calvin and the Rebels and a song writer for approximately 50 years; he also enjoyed hunting. In his later years, he enjoyed attending church and continued his passion for music by writing gospel songs.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vickey Gail Prine. He is survived by 15 children.

For his obituary above, we can deduce that music, hunting and gospel weren't the only things he enjoyed. Let's have a moving thought for Vickey Gail Prine ....

In those heady days, when the worst sexually transmitted disease you could get was VD (venereal disease), which could be erased with a free shot, The Wolfman actually seems to be encouraging kids to sex it up. There is no mention here of preventive measures (condoms, foam etc.), but hey... it was a safer, cleaner world. "Safe Sex" wasn't even on the horizon.

 

Robert Weston Smith (1938–1995), known as Wolfman Jack, was an American disc jockey active for over three decades. Famous for the gravelly voice which he credited for his success. [Wikipedia]

Oddity from 1975.  Who were Joyce Di Brango and Frank Wilson, sole owners of JOiFU Records, located at 102 Hobart Street, in Utica, N.Y.? I can't find much info about them. 

Joi (Joyce Lauraine DiBrango) was born in 1944.  A 1959 newspaper tells us that she was a member of The Utica Grammar School Girls Basketball League team that wins a city “sports day” tournament  and that she was from Roosevelt School.

Even more mysterious is Fu aka Frank Edward Wilson, born in 1912.

JOiFU Records was active in the seventies and released two "Broadway Musical Show" albums and several singles recorded by

This is the 2nd Broadway Musical Project by ASCAP writers/publishers and record label owners Joyce Lauraine Dibrango "joi" and Frank Edward Wilson "fu" from Utica New York. They are experienced veteran professional all music artists, Jazrok is their paramount style and Frank's stint with the Utica Civic Orchestra brought the USA National Title to that Group in the 1950's.  

"Rocking with Barbara" song 5 explains "Queen Barbara" is the real USA all Music Queen. She is Real. You may see her any day at her executive office desk. Her 1970-1980 The greatest in all time USA history. That gigantic.

Wheelchair Is Sought WINSTON-SALEM (AP) — Joel Stafford, 9-years-old and suffering from a rare bone disorder, has his heart set on an electric wheelchair. "I'm going to buy myself a wheelchair," he vows. "I'm going to take it to school so I can roll myself around." Joel has a congenital condition called osteogenesis imperfecta, which means his system lacks the calcium needed to harden and develop bone tissue.  He has steel rods in his legs, but his arms have not developed enough to permit such bone-replacing surgery. Joel sings regularly at his church, and his parents — Wayne and Linda Stafford — took him to a small recording studio to make a record.  It is called "God is So Good," and has sold about 1,000 copies so far. The electric wheelchair Joel wants could cost as much as $1,500. Joel made the recording in hopes of raising enough money to buy the chair.  Though small and unable to move around well, Joel has a happy face and is undaunted by the dangers confronting him.  He hasn't broken a bone since February, a considerable improvement over the past. Often a simple wrong movement could cause a bone to break. He has received therapy at the Shrine Hospital In Greenville, S. C. He attends school at the Children's Center In Winston-Salem, and enjoys school.

Apparently little Joel had raised enough money to buy the wheelchair. But the wheelchair was stolen shortly after, in 1977.  The Piedmonitor.from September 01, 1978 reported :

Frank Barnes, of Winston maintenance, met one of his special friends, Joel Stafford, at the Children's Center during the solicitors' tours of the Forsyth County United Way agencies. The Company long has had a tradition of giving generously to the United Way. It is a tradition that unquestionably deserves to be maintained. and Frank helped promote Joel's gospel singing records to raise money to replace his wheelchair. Joel and Edwin are two of the many people helped by Piedmont's participation in the annual fund drive.
