My Girl Sue

The Thunderbolts, high school students from the Carroll-Kemper High School (Iowa) recorded an album (acetate) at the Sears Recording Studios in Omaha, Nebraska.

Only two songs from this album were released : 'My Girl Sue' and 'I Wanna See You Again' as a 45 single for The Fabulous Thunderbolts (Poverty 1072, '65)).

They were inducted in the Iowa Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame in 2000.

This groups first job was at the Carroll grade school, their only problem was they had no name. When they were about to take the stage, a bolt of lightning struck close to the school and the Thunderbolts were born.

Choo-Choo

THE CABLES
★★★ Choo-Choo –RCA VICTOR 7839 – An interesting blues with novelty touches. The group hands it a distrinctive reading against good guitar support. (Bradshaw, BMI) (2 :15)

Santa Bring Me a Puppy Dog

PANEL COOL TO YULE DISK

New York – Record companies who expected to beat the gun this year to bring out the first Christmas record can wait until next year.

Billboard’s reviewing staff was a little surprised to find a record this week titled « Santa Bring Me a Puppy Dog. » Song is by Sherry Crane on the Trumpet label.

One panel member said, « Even with the air conditioning going full blast, it’s kind of hard to take this record seriously. » Meanwhille, outside the thermometer hovered around 92 degrees.

Billboard, July 11, 1964

Five years earlier, Sherrry Crane then 11-year old, had a release on Sun Records. According to The Good, the Bad, and the Funky blog, "The worst song I own is probably "Winnie The Parakeet". It's the A-side of an obscure Sun Records single, sung by an 11-year old named Sherry Crane. It was released in 1959. It's terrible."

Denise Regan setting up a Christmas standard for years to come!

A 10 year old Chicago born actress/vocalist debuts as a professional singer with this record of HOLE IN THE STOCKING b/w DATE WITH SANTA CLAUS.

Denise’s face should be familiar to the millions of TV and motion picture fans from her many appaearances in these entertainment medias. Also, her more than 100 TV and radio commercials make her like an old family friend. Otherwise, Denise has done little else in her young life than attend Parochial School ! !

Denise a discovery of Doris Gilbert, President of Dee Gee Records, who chanced to hear his moppet star sing during the filming of a motion picture in Hollywood. She immediately signed her to a long term contract.

Famed musician Pete Rugulo arranged and conducted the two songs. He predicts this young personality will rise to the heights of stardom – and her HOLE IN THE STOCKING will become a Christmas standard for years to come ! !

Should we really thank Miss Doris Gilbert for her "discovery"? I don't think so, that's why I've included - for your convenience - only a sample of each side ...
