Boston-born, Norm Vincent arrived in Jacksonville, Florida in 1956 where he hosted a top-rated radio morning drive show before moving into sales. In 1962, he assumed management of WZOK, before leaving in 1966 to operate the Norm Vincent Recording Studios. 

Norm Vincent passed away in 2014.

Vero Beach, Florida drummer Diane Marie Mohr,  31-year old in 1978, has been drumming and singing the previous year at Rick's Dugout Lounge with the Glenn Shell Trio.. She started playing drums at age 14. Three years later, she was, providing the.beat for such name acts as Bobby Vinton, Anita Bryant and the Tokens. "1 was In a band in Louisville and we played at a benefit concert with some big singers," Miss Mohr said., "The Tokens even, asked me to join' them because it would have been pretty unusual, for a chick to be in the band. But Mom and,. Dad said no way. l wasn't even out of high school, yet," Instead, she continued taking drum lessons throughout high school.

The record was financed by Avonelle Call, who acted as her sponsor. "We have an agreement that if I ever hit it big, she'll get 10 per cent. Actually, she's just a close friend. who doesn't know anything about music. She thinks I just deserve a shot..."

Besides being a flea market manager, skating rink proprietor and recording artist, Buddy Max is an actor. In one corner of his land, he built a small amphitheater where, from 1969 to 1974, Buddy and his wife Freda portrayed Adam and Eve. Their son, Johnny, was cast as the Cherub who chased them from the Garden of Eden. They all wore flesh-colored leotards.

"I pulled a string -- you couldn't see the string -- and the rib came up," said Buddy, whose real name is Boris Max Pastuch. "It was actually a religious play, see."

Alan Dean, born in East Ham, London in 1924, was voted the UK's most popular male singer in the Melody Maker 1949-50 popularity poll and retained that position until 1952.

By mid-1951 Alan realised that he had achieved all he could possibly achieve in Britain. He had kept in touch with pianist George Shearing, a colleague from his days with Frank Weir's band, and whose career had taken a great leap forward in America. Shearing advised Alan to "come on over". Then Barry Ulanov, the eminent music critic and editor of Metronome magazine, met Alan in London, heard him sing and gave him the same advice.

Encouraged by his support, but remaining cautious, Alan decided to 'test the water' on a short holiday in New York, but so quick and positive was the reaction there that he was unable to return to London until 1957. 

In the USA, there was records on London, Roost, MGM (1952-1956), Rama (1956-1957), Roulette (1957) and Panama (1959). 

Composer of "Let's Stay Home" is Denise Norwood (or Dennise Haas Norwood).  Se wrote among others "Garden Of Eden" (Joe Valino, Vik Records, 1956), Teenage Blues (Roc LaRue With The Three Pals, Rama Records, 1957),   and House Of Heartache  (Cathy Carr,  Fraternity  Records, 1957).

Dennise Norwood recorded herself a single for Glory Records in 1959 (Bring On The Rain b/w House Of Heartache) and a concept album titled " In The Skin With Me"  "an audio-musical with scenes and action in sound selections and story line" issued in 1962 on Dennise Records.  She died in 1999 in Florida.

Vincent Fiorino, the owner of Gulfstream Records in Hollywood, Florida, was formerly with Paul Whiteman and a score of symphonies and opera companies, was also with CBS in Chicago for fifteen years during which time Downbeat Magazine voted him the fastest tuba in America.   

He'd written several hits including Dinah Shore's 'Blue Canary' and Theresa Brewer's 'Skinny Minnie' as well as Red Foley's 'Red Canary'

I launched my music career while living in Clearwater, Florida. I played quite a few teen dances in the Clearwater area. I remember the first band to influence me was a group I first saw at the old Clearwater Auditorium called The Dreamers a band which was lead by a guitarist/vocalist from Largo, Florida named Ralph Steward. I used to go to the dances and watch Ralph and his other guitarist, Pete Bass (I hope I remember his name correctly) play, and then go home and practice what I saw them doing on an old acoustic guitar.

The two songs mentioned in the article above, "It's Gonna Be All Right" and "Don't Cry", were issued in 1959 on Nuggett Records, Tampa label owned by Lonzo and Oscar,  once a popular country act.

From the movie "Shanty Tramp" released in 1967 produced by K. Gordon Murray who hired a Cuban exile, José Prieto, with a limited résumé (the 1964 horror short Love Goddesses of Blood Island) to direct, plus a crew principally composed of nonunion Cuban Americans.

Shanty Tramp (1967). Murray's best -- and best-known -- original production features cast of unknowns invoking all the verities of the Southern exploitation picture: dissolute dame, rape, incest, nudity, miscegenation, patricide, bikers, fiery car explosion, moonshiner, gangsters, false prophet, lynch mob, and go-go dancing. Vampiric-looking small-town slut tempts slimy revival preacher, fends off welshing biker leader named Savage, willingly submits to -- then betrays -- young, confused black man, and winds up facing off carnally against drunken Daddy Dearest. Tennessee Williams on a shoestring. Memorable line: "Crazy like, man. Like me and my chick want to find a dark corner somewhere anyway, Daddy-o."

the King of the Kiddie Matinee

K. Gordon Murray was a Florida-based producer and distributor of low-budget motion pictures. From the late 1950's through the mid 1970's, Murray released at least 66 films, which can be broken down into three categories:

1/ Murray imported, redubbed and released some 30 horror films from Mexico.

2/ Murray released over 20 fairy tale films to a "Weekends Only" matinee audience, virtually creating the highly lucrative "Kiddie Matinee" marketing niche. These films were either redubbed imports, rereleases of older films, or original productions.

3/ Murray released about a dozen exploitation films, risque adult dramas designed both for drive-ins and adults-only grindhouses. These included imported foreign films and original productions.

Singer Betty Dickson - an institution in South Florida's show business community for over fifty years - passed away on December 7 [2006?] after a long bout with ARDS. Starting in the 1950s, Betty performed with jazz greats like Tiny Kahn, Chubby Jackson, Lionel Hampton, James Moody, Harry "Sweets" Edison, John Williams and Louie Bellson. She's perhaps best known for her work with pianist Eddie Higgins,... From Betty Dickson's obituary found only HERE (a jazz and blues japanese website?).

Lyricist Reuben Guberman, a self-proclaimed "fat Jewish maverick," had a long and varied career in film production, public relations and other trades. Working for Murray his job was translating the original language scripts into English dialog for the voice-talent. See 8thman.com HERE
